About
2nd Street
" Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself "
John Dewey
Welcome to 2nd Street Learning!
Throughout my educational career, I've dreamed of an organization centered around individualized education. The goal of 2nd Street Learning is to unite the community and prioritize each child, crafting tailor-made learning experiences so they may thrive in life.
After leaving a traditional classroom after 14 years to create this program in 2020 to empower students and families, 2nd Street Learning has been the bridge to help close learning gaps worsened by truancy, disconnection, and disengagement—challenges spanning both pre-pandemic and post-pandemic times. With innovation at our core, we aim to transform education, moving away from the status quo thinking and practices..
Through dynamic partnerships with virtual schools and robust partnerships within the community, we envision a future where students thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Join us on this transformative journey at 2nd Street Learning.

Partnerships
2nd Street Learning values the vital role of community partners in education. Education thrives on collaboration beyond school walls. Our partners enrich each child's learning with diverse resources and real-world insights.
Through our vast collaborations with Flint and Genesee County entities - businesses, nonprofits, universities, government agencies, and cultural institutions - our students gain broader knowledge and practical experiences. Partners bridge classroom learning with real-life applications, enhancing education's relevance.
Community partners mentor, speak, and collaborate on projects, inspiring students to pursue their passions and explore future careers. These partnerships foster belonging, engagement, and community involvement, boosting learner confidence and motivation. 2nd Street Learning learners lead by integrating community perspectives, addressing local challenges, and contributing to community well-being. They emerge as true leaders.
